Escape rooms are quickly becoming bigger and bigger attractions across the UK.

Now visitors of the East Anglian Railway Museum, at Chappel, have the chance to transport themselves to 1954.

The next chance for visitors to have a go is this Saturday.

Incarcerated in the Victorian station waiting rooms or one of the vintage corridor trains in teams, the code-breaker experience is based on the key role Essex played in national defence during the Cold War.

Teams of between four and eight people are transported to a time when the East Anglian Intelligence Agency had been monitoring a Soviet-backed spy cell responsible for intercepting sensitive radio communications between Allied military units in the Essex area.

The spy cell has been using the rail network around Essex to avoid detection, but intelligence services have traced them and captured several members of the team.

One spy hid a top-secret file on board a train or possibly somewhere in the waiting room at Chappel Station.

Once they find the hidden file filled with puzzles, teams must crack the code to escape.

With only an hour to escape, teams must be prepared to pit their wits in a race against time.

Teams can take on the challenge at 10.30am, noon, 1.30pm or 3pm.

Tickets are £90 per team from the East Anglian Railway Museum website and are £90 per team.

The next dates in spring are April 27, May 25 and May 29.
