A VOLUNTEER who gives up her time to support vulnerable families and children has been recognised for her commitment.

Tracy Lanham, of Clacton, was crowned Volunteer of the Year for the South East at the Marsh Trust Awards.

Tracy has been volunteering at the Essex Child and Family Wellbeing Service, previously Barnardo’s, at the Sydney House Family Hub for just over three years.

The Marsh Trust Awards recognise people who go above and beyond to make a difference in the community.

Tracy has overcome many personal challenges throughout her life and was initially shy and nervous talking to people and interacting with them.

Over time her confidence has grown and she has found volunteering has given her a sense of purpose.

Tracy received her award at a volunteer celebration event attended by more than 40 volunteers from across the county.

She was given the award by Kim Hamber, UK volunteering and community engagement advisor at Barnardo’s.

Kim said: “Tracy is part of the team here at the hub and has volunteered many hours over the years.

“She is reliable, hardworking and enthusiastic.

“Tracy’s increased confidence and self-esteem has had a direct impact on her volunteering role and the level of support and interaction she’s able to offer to families and colleagues alike.

“Tracy thoroughly deserves to have won this award and is a true star. We wouldn’t be able to do half as much as we do without her.”
