FAMILIES got together for a singalong at Brightlingsea Library to shine a light on mental wellbeing.

Brightlingsea WinterFest has been held annually since 2015.

It was set up following the suicide of well-known musician Joe Keighley, 42, in 2014.

His partner Alix Sheppard founded the event, alongside Dave Griffiths.

Speaking after the Music at the Library event, she said: “It was really good, we had about 300 people turn up over the course of the day.

“The music by candlelight event, held that evening, was amazing.

“I think the whole weekend raised about £1,500 - but it’s not about the fundraising, it’s about getting people out and brightening up winter.”

This is just one of many events organised for the festival, which runs until February 24.

This Saturday, from 10am until 2pm, there will be a Family Fun and Wellbeing Day held at Brightlingsea Sports Centre, at Colne Community College in Church Road.

On the same evening, at 7.30pm, there is a cabaret event at YMCA Hall in Brightlingsea High Street.
