IT now seems every man and his dog has had their say on the plans for Colchester’s so-called Cultural Quarter.

Residents have been bombarded with information, both for and against the controversial plans for a hotel and student accommodation, for what seems like an eternity.

Alumno’s recently revised proposals have drawn strong criticism from many passionate campaigners - just as the original plans did.

And fair play to the protestors who care for their town and only want the best for it.

They are acting not just for themselves but for future generations as once the development is built, it cannot be unbuilt

All parties agree something has to be done with site, but the question is what?

To say the development has been divisive is something of an understatement and progress towards agreement has been something akin to the Brexit debate - in other words minimal.

But in a similar way to leaving the EU, all those involved need to look beyond their differences and find a way forward for the benefit of Colchester.

So what is right for that site? Can there be an agreement which both good for the town and financially viable.

Is there time to rip up the plans and seek a more collaborative approach?

It is certainly time for the two sides to stop butting heads and work together to try to get the best result for our town.

Again like Brexit, it is right to say Colchester has only got one go at this.
