POLICE have identified a man found dead in Colchester.

Carl Hopkins, 49, was found in Ryegate Road on Monday morning at 8.20am.

He had a stab wound to his back and police launched a murder investigation.

Detectives think his death is linked to another incident, which happened shortly before 9.55pm on Sunday 10 February.

A 40-year-old man was found in George Street. He also had stab wounds to his back and was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Police believe both incidents are drug related and isolated.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: "Our enquiries are progressing and we believe both incidents are drugs related and isolated in nature

"We have increased patrols in the town centre to provide extra reassurance and continue to ask anyone with concerns or information about either incident to speak to officers.
