A MAN was flown to hospital with life-changing injuries after being hit by a train.
Emergency services launched a rescue mission after he was trapped on the tracks between the Hythe and Colchester Town Station on Monday evening.
The incident is believed to have happened close to the Hythe.
A spokesman for British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to the lines close to Colchester Town station at 5.45pm following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
“Paramedics also attended and a person has been airlifted to hospital with what are believed to be life-changing injuries.
“Officers are currently working to establish the full circumstances behind their injuries. Anyone with information can contact BTP by texting 61016 or calling 0800 405040 quoting reference 440 of 11/02/19.”
Commuters were stuck on the train for more than an hour as emergency services helped the person who had been hit.
The East of England Ambulance Service confirmed the man had suffered a serious leg injury.
