It is more than 30 years since the Smiths, one of Britain’s most-loved indie bands responsible for hits including This Charming Man and Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now, graced the stage, led by the charismatic Morrissey and the guitar-slinging Johnny Marr.

I am compiling a "people’s history" of the Smiths, telling their story in the words of fans who saw them live, and I’d love to hear from anyone who saw them appear in Colchester.

They played the Woods Leisure Centre in September 1983 and were back just a few months later to play the university in February 1984.

I am looking for people to share their memories with me to help me paint a picture of the band and their performances.
