A band dedicated to one of British music’s top singers will be taking to the stage at a popular town theatre.

Tribute act John Lennon UK will be heading to Witham Public Hall in the coming weeks where they will be recreating some of the best hits originally performed by the former Beatles star, John Lennon.

Though Lennon was world-famous for his time with the Beatles, and his solo work was deeply admired in the UK and America, where he spent his final few years living before his assassination in 1980.

By 2012, Lennon’s solo album sales in the US had surpassed 14 million and he had 25 number-one singles as a writer or singer.

He was also posthumously inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, firstly for his work with the Beatles and then again in 1994 as a solo artist.

The tribute night to Lennon will see the perform

Led by experienced Lennon look-and-sound-alike Gaz Keenan, the John Lennon UK band will cover a mix of Beatles hits and Lennon’s solo work during the show, with top classics such as Working Class Hero, You Can’t Do That, A Day In The Life and Norwegian Wood.

Gaz rose to fame last October when he featured heavily in ITV reality show The Big Audition which saw tribute singers face off against each other to be crowned the best John Lennon impersonator.

A spokesman said: “Gaz has put together a professional band of musicians with many years experience playing theatre venues in leading tribute acts, and the Lennon Retrospective has been created to deliver wide appeal as well as a highly authentic Lennon and Beatles experience.

“The band aims to faithfully recreate Johns soulful vocals, his rugged and passionate guitar playing, John’s simplistic but beautiful piano work, his look – always so cool – his mannerisms, his accent and, of course, his caustic wit.”

The tribute show takes place on Saturday, February 9, and gets underway at 8pm.

Doors will open at 7.30pm and tickets are priced £15 each.
