THE upper levels of Clacton’s multi-storey car park will be closed later this month while work is carried out to the electrical supply.

The former toilets under High Street Car Park are being demolished and the land will be converted into additional parking spaces.

The power supply to the lighting on the multi-storey car park comes from the former lavatories.

To allow the demolition to take place, work is needed to move the existing power supply.

The closure is scheduled to begin on January 28 and last for around three days.

It does not affect the external parking areas in the car park, which is accessed via Carnarvon Road.

As part of the council’s modernisation programme, nearby Westleigh House will also be demolished

To minimise disruption the two demolition projects are scheduled to be completed together in February.

Motorists are encouraged to consider using other nearby car parks – such as those in Wellesley Road and Vista Road – for the duration of the works.

Fred Nicholls, Tendring Council’s cabinet member responsible for car parking, apologised for any inconvenience caused during the works.

“We appreciate this may cause some disruption while the electrical work is carried out,” he said.

“However, this is short-term pain for long-term gain as it will allow our plans to expand car parking provision on this site to go ahead.”
