A GROUP of Morris Men danced in celebration to raise money for children with disabilities.

The Colchester Morris Men have a special tradition of dancing in front of large crowds on Boxing Day.

The dancers chose to give the £341 raised to the Colchester Children’s Charity, which has shops in Mersea Road and Old Heath Road.

The money raised will go towards helping children with disabilities and learning difficulties.

Cheryl Darnell, one of the charity’s volunteers and fundraisers, said: “Robin Taverner, squire, and Martin Theobald, bag-man, gave up there Boxing Day to perform in front of about 150 people at The Chequers in Great Tey.

“Robin said the audience was so generous.

“As we are a small local charity people don’t know who we are, so thank you to everyone who gave up their time.”
