It’s the first big stand-up name of the year, with plenty of more to come later, as Andrew Lawrence presents some good clean fun.

Star of BBC1’s Live at The Apollo, Michael McIntyre’s Roadshow and Dave’s One Night Stand, as well as the hugely successful self-penned BBC Radio 4 series, There Is No Escape, Andrew is taking a break from all the controversy in this new show with no politics, no religion, no smut and no swearing, just great jokes and good clean fun.

After starting stand-up while at St Andrews University, his successful debut at the Edinburgh Fringe, gained him the runner up spot in the 2003 So You Think You’re Funny competition.

Following that he won the Amused Moose Starsearch, York Comedy Festival New Act of the Year Competition and the BBC’s New Act of the Year Competition in 2004.

He presented his first hour-long comedy show at the 2006 Edinburgh Festival Fringe entitled How to Butcher your Loved Ones. It was nominated for Best Newcomer.

His 2007 Fringe show, Social Leprosy For Beginners and Improvers, was also nominated for the main comedy award.

As well as his many television and radio appearances, including the part of builder Marco in the BBC TV sitcom Ideal, Andrew is perhaps best known for his dark humour and his recent spat with a number of high profile comedians regarding their political leanings.

Andrew Lawrence: Clean is at the Colchester Arts Centre this Saturday at 8pm. Tickets are priced £14 and £12 for concessions, available on-line at colchesterartscentre.com
