AN emergency crowdfunding appeal has been set up by a resident who saw her neighbours' homes go up in smoke.

Gina Simms is behind the Go Fund Me page which has a £600 donation target for the victims of a flat fire in Colchester today.

Four families from Golden Noble Hill, near Colchester town centre, have lost their homes and are now in temporary accommodation.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is also due to be launched.

Mum Gina told the Gazette: "It was so close to home, it was horrific."

Online she wrote: "Four families on my street have been left homeless because of a very bad fire in their flats.

"Most are in temporary accommodation in another town.

"They can’t return home. Just need to get them all a bit of money to keep them going for the next few days."
