1. Jack and the Beanstalk, Mercury Theatre, Balkerne Gate, Colchester

Christmas and New Year may have passed but the festive fun continues longer than it has ever done before with the Colchester theatre’s pantomime. Featuring a super cast, some brilliant costumes and sets, make sure you don’t miss one of their best shows ever.
2. Raqs Media Collective: Not Yet At Ease, Firstsite, Lewis Gardens High Street, Colchester
Until January 20, 10am. Free. 01206 713700.
Winding its way through the gallery’s large exhibition space, in the centenary of the end of the First World War, this is a thought-provoking show as well as a visual treat from the Dehli-based international art collective, which only has a few more weeks to run.
3. The Laughter Zone Comedy Club, Colchester Arts Centre, Church Street, Colchester
Doors 8pm. £10, £8 concessions. 01206 500900.
Some of the most famous names in stand-up have started at this club at the Colchester Arts Centre including the likes of Jack Dee, Michael McIntyre and Eddie Izzard. Get along and who knows which comedy stars of the future you’ll be seeing on stage.
4. The Great Arts Centre Jumble Sale, Colchester Arts Centre, Church Street, Colchester
Tomorrow, 10am to 2pm. 01206 500900.
Of course this is no ordinary jumble sale, mainly because it’s taking place at the Colchester Arts Centre but the principles remain true. So sharpen up those elbows and dive in as there are plenty of bargains a plenty to be had. Donations are still required so if you have anything to give away just call 07814695598.
5. Blondel: ‘Bon jour, bon mois’, St Andrew’s Church, Church Lane, Marks Tey

The period instrument group returns for another concert, this time highlighting the historical customs of New Year.
In Medieval times nobles would commonly commission songs from the greatest composers, and the trio will be playing some of them including works from Wolkenstein and the Lochamer Liederbuch, performing on shawms, bagpipes and recorders.
