Young would-be archaeologists - more used to seaside buckets and spades - have taken to digging up the garden of their Colchester nursery school.
Youngsters at Lexden Montessori have been inspired by a dig being held on the site of a new house in Oxford Road.
The arrival of diggers, lorries and men in yellow jackets met with great curiosity from the pupils, who wanted to know what they were doing.
Before arranging for a talk with one of the archeologists, nursery staff led a group discussion on the Romans and their route from Italy to Colchester.
Keen to get in on the action, the youngsters decided to run a similar operation in their own yard.
