GEOGRAPHY students headed west to carry out an experiment on water levels in rivers.

The Year 11 pupils from New Rickstones Academy, in Witham, went to Amersham in Buckinghamshire for the field trip.

They measured changes between the river source and its confluences.

Victoria Banks, head of geography, said: “We teach students how to do this in the classroom, but by going out and physically doing it for themselves, the lesson comes to life for them.

“While we were there, they were asking lots of questions as everything they had been learning was becoming clearer for them.

“It’s one thing telling them how to do it, but getting them to do it for themselves makes all the difference.”
