WITHAM Town manager Mark Ashford was pleased to see his players get rewarded as they battled in front of a sizeable travelling support at Felixstowe and Walton United.

Having not always got the rewards that their play has deserved this season, Witham did on this occasion get something as they picked up a valuable Bostik League division north point with a 2-2 draw at a Felixstowe side pressing in the top ten in the table.

Ashford was grateful for the vocal support offered by the travelling Witham fans and said it was nice for his players to come away with something to show for their efforts.

He said: "I've said on a number of occasions this season that we have been in every game we've played this year and this was no different.

"We knew we were in it and deserved something from it as we played to a similar standard as we had in other games and I was very pleased to see that the players got some reward for their efforts this time.

"It was nice to see them get something back because they haven't always this year.

"It was a tough place to go - a long way to travel and was in front of a big home crowd - so we were grateful for the number of Witham fans who made the journey up there to support us.

"That certainly gave us a lift because we were behind twice in the game.

"In the second half, we had more of the chances and we had what we felt was a clear-cut penalty appeal turned down so we didn't get the rub of the green , but I was pleased to see how we battled back from being behind twice.

"Felixstowe also had chances, though, and a draw was probably a fair reflection of the game over 90 minutes, but we felt we could have got all three points.

"Their keeper made several great saves in that second half and we felt we were on top.

"Overall it was satisfying to get some reward.

"There were about 30 to 40 Witham fans who made the trip and it was nice to get something from it for them.

"We really appreciated it as we certainly noticed it.

"It's important in a game like that to have some voices in the crowd that help the team through any difficult moments.

"To see the team battle hard and get something was hopefully a reward for the fans as well and it was pleasing for both of us."
