A MUM is trying to raise £15,000 so her two sons with serious muscular conditions can have their own bedrooms.

Brodie and Jayden-Lee Padmore, from Colchester, both have Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

The condition, which they were both born with, means they do not have a vital gene which repairs muscles.

Brodie, 11 and Jayden-Lee, nine, have both been wheelchair-bound since they were eight.

And because their muscles are continuously wasting away, their condition means they may not live past 24.

Mum Rachael, of Albany Gardens, in Colchester, said the Gosbecks Primary School pupils are living in the lounge at home as there is not enough space for all their medical equipment.

She is hoping to build an extension with two bedrooms, so the boys can have their own space. She said: “The boys need help getting dressed, going to the toilet, and they have so much therapy and are always going to hospital.

“The both go to Gosbecks Primary School and teachers have supported them massively.

“They need their own rooms as they can’t get up the stairs and there is not enough room for a stair lift.

“They are playing and eating in the living room with two sofas, two medical beds, an electric wheelchair, and the TV.

“It’s a really stressful situation.”

The family has already had to build a wetroom downstairs using a disabled facilities grant.

They were also given the same grant for an extension, but the grant does not cover the cost of all the adaptations and so work has come to a halt.

The mum-of-five added: “The extension is going to take up half the garden as they need their own rooms.

“The boys have been waiting since we moved into the house in March to have their own rooms as they have no space for their toys or clothes; everything is just scattered around the house.”

The boys want space to be able to play with their other two brothers and sister.

A fundraising page has been set up for the extension. Visit www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/bandjpandmore.
