A MOTORIST who killed a beloved grandfather when she smashed into him and a pub has been jailed for three-and-a-half years.

Ronald Ramsey, who was 74, asked paramedics who tried to save his life  to tell his wife of more than 50 years Pauline that he loved her before he died at the scene of the crash next to The Hoy public house in St Osyth.

Mr Ramsey, who was walking his dog at the time, was hit by a Volkswagen Touareg being driven by Kellie Tandy.

The 38-year-old was driving at double the 30mph speed limit along Colchester Road, St Osyth, when she approached the junction with Clacton Road.

Alongside her jail term, Tandy will be banned from driving for three years after her release from jail but plans never to get behind the wheel again.
