A MASTER of cakes is bringing Channel 4 to Colchester to film the big reveal of her latest creation.

Eloise Durrant is known for starring in Channel 4’s Extreme Cake Makers.

The programme follows professional cake makers who set themselves tasks of making the craziest cakes imaginable.

Eloise’s sister, Emma, has helped organise a Christmas concert in Colchester, which is the venue for her next masterpiece.

'Strumscious!' - Eloise's guitar cake

Eloise, 38, who owns the Gourmet Cake Company in Chelmsford, said: “Channel 4 called me a few years ago saying they wanted to start the Extreme Cake Makers show, we did a pilot episode and people loved it.

“We are now into series four, it’s so popular. I have had my shop for about eight years and was making cakes professionally before going on the show.”

As well as making bespoke cakes for special events, she also teaches others how to make them.

She said: “I did a course in patisserie at college and what started out being something small just grew and grew.

“I have made some really crazy stuff. One of the cakes which really stands out when people ask is an electric guitar that can actually be plugged in and played. I made it for an Ed Sheeran support act.

“I’ve also made a Statue of Liberty and a working fruit machine which money comes out of.

“Sometimes I think it’s going to be a nightmare, but when everything is bespoke it’s a learning curve.”

Her sister Emma’s Christmas concert will feature a Dickensian-style dinner table, adorned with candelabras and old-fashioned food items.

Eloise has been set the task of making a Turkey cake, which will be the centrepiece for the dinner table.

She said: “I’m starting it next week and it will be all systems go.

“I never get a practice run so I need to just go for it - we haven’t thought much about flavours yet.”

Channel 4 will be filming the big reveal at the Christmas Carol concert, which takes place at St Botolph’s Church in Colchester on Saturday.

A Christmas Carol is Charles Dickens’ most famous story and a 100-piece choir will be telling the tale.

The timeless book will also be read by Colchester Arts Centre director Anthony Roberts.
