YOUNGSTERS showed their respect for the Armistice centenary by creating a poppy wreath display at their school.

Each class at Mayflower Primary School, Dovercourt, chose a different way of creating a wreath using a variety of art and craft techniques and materials.

One class chose to adorn their own Tommy with hundreds of poppies, while another used a cross to depict the 100th anniversary. Other classes opted for a classic wreath with hand-made flowers.

The wreaths were displayed along the entrance path to the school where parents and carers could admire them and pay their respects on Friday morning.

Assemblies were also held during last week to commemorate the event and to give thanks to our country’s fallen heroes.

Katherine Crawford, the early years lead teacher said: “It was lovely to see how the children embraced this activity with enthusiasm and diligence.

“They understood why it was so important to remember the soldiers who have died and given their lives for their country.

“The poppy wreaths are on display in Mayflower Primary School for the whole school community to see.”
