ESSEX will receive £10million from the Department for Transport to fix roads.
The Government has revealed how £420million announced in the Budget will be spent, and it brings the total funds for roads in the east for this year to over £181million.
Next year, the east will get more than £128 million from the Local Highways Maintenance and Integrated Transport Block funds, which will go towards repairing roads and investing in small safety, bus priority or walking and cycling schemes.
Essex will receive a total of £10,894,000.
Clacton MP Giles Watling welcomed the additional cash for Essex County Council to spend on potholes and wider highways maintenance.
He said: “Although this is strictly a county council issue, I get many potholes highlighted to me by local residents and we all need good roads to get to where we are going.
“I am pleased that the Government has listened to their concerns and this new funding will ensure that we have the best infrastructure going.
“Make sure you report any issues to the council, so they can be addressed.”
The new funding, announced recently in the budget, will help the county council repair potholes, keep local bridges and structures open and safe, and help with other minor highways works that may be needed.
