Patients wanting an “out of hours” GP appointment in Maldon will now be seen at a different surgery.

When Mid Essex Clinical Commissioning Group launched its Extended Access scheme in October appointments were offered at Longfields Medical Centre.

As of Monday, November 12, this will now move to the Blackwater Medical Centre, a few metres down the road.

The scheme allows patients to get appointments between 6.30pm and 8pm on weekdays and between 8am and 2pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

A spokesman for the CCG said: “The two premises are only a couple of minutes’ walk apart so it is hoped there should be no disruption from the change.”

Other surgeries offering appointments are the Elizabeth Courtauld Surgery; Halstead, North Chelmsford Health Centre in Springfield, Chelmsford, and Mount Chambers Surgery in Braintree.

Appointments may be with practice nurses, GPs or other healthcare professionals, and there is no walk-in service.

If you want to book an appointment outside of your own GP surgery’s opening hours, you can call NHS 111 who may decide an Extended Access appointment is the best care for you.

If you no longer need an Extended Access appointment you have booked, you should contact your own practice during working hours, or outside surgery hours, call 07384 579479 to cancel.
