The fallen will be remembered at services held across the Maldon district to mark the centenary of the end of the Great War.

The Standard had put together a list of the services which will be held for Remembrance Sunday.

Maldon

In Maldon a wreath laying ceremony will take place at the war memorial, in High Street, starting at 10.30am on Sunday.

The Royal British Legion Parade Marshal will be gathering participating veterans, members of the cadet services, emergency services, voluntary organisations and young people from district schools in front of the memorial from approximately 10.15am.

Around 40 wreaths will be laid this year including by town mayor Jeanette Stilts, representatives of the armed forces including the town’s cadet troops, and representatives of Maldon-based organisations.

After the ceremony, everyone, including members of the public, are invited to attend a civic service to commemorate the centenary of the armistice in All Saints Church at 11.15am.

It will include music from the All Saints choir, All Saints hand bell ringers and Suki Swindale and Carol Bonard, who will be singing a song specially written to commemorate Suki’s great-uncle, killed at Loos in 1916.

At 5pm, the Essex Association of Change Bell Ringers will ring a half muffled peal on the All Saints bells.

Burnham

In Burnham a Remembrance Service will take place at the Baptist Church, in Station Road, from 10am.

It will be followed by a service at the town’s war memorial from 11am.

Stow Maries Aerodrome

Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome will hold its annual service and wreath laying ceremony at 2pm.

The site in Hackmans Lane, Purleigh, will be open from 11am.

The service will include wreaths laid by deputy lieutenant Simon Brice and vice-chairman of Maldon District Council Neil Pudney.

Other dignitaries and cadets will take part in a parade.

Weather permitting, poppies will be released overhead during the service.

Proceedings are expected to be concluded by 3pm.

Althorne

A short service will be held at the war memorial on Sunday at 10.55am.

Wreaths will be placed and the names of the fallen from the village read.

The service will continue at the church at 11.15am.

Bradwell-on-Sea

Remembrance Sunday service from 10.45am at St Thomas Church.

Cold Norton

The service on Sunday will be at 10.30am in St Stephen’s. On behalf of the residents of Cold Norton, the chairman of the parish council, Philip Wakeling, will be laying a wreath.

Creeksea

All Saints Church, 6pm, Service of Remembrance.

Heybridge

Heybridge Parish Council Remembrance Service and Parade.

Parade begins at 10.35am from Plantation Hall to Heybridge Cemetery.

Refreshments will be served in the main hall after the service.

Mayland

St Barnabas Church Remembrance Day service will start early to accommodate the two minute silence.

Baptist service in St Barnabas Family Centre, Imperial Avenue, 10.30am.

North Fambridge

A Remembrance Day Service is being held at Holy Trinity Church at 10am.

Tollesbury

10am Remembrance Service at Tollesbury Congregational Church followed by laying of wreaths.

Tolleshunt D’Arcy

10.50am Remembrance Service, St Nicholas Church, Tolleshunt D’Arcy

Salcott

3pm Remembrance Service, St Mary’s Church, Salcott

Tiptree

The Remembrance Sunday parade in Tiptree will be held from 2.35pm3.15pm.

The ceremony at the war memorial will run from 2.45pm to 3.05pm approximately, and then the parade will walk along Church Road for a service at St Luke’s at 3.15pm.

Woodham Walter
