A MAN was left with life-changing injuries after being stabbed several times in a residential street.

Police were called to Mandeville Road, Marks Tey, shortly after 10.30pm on Wednesday after the victim was discovered. He was taken to Colchester Hospital for treatment.

Marks Tey Parish Council chairman Allan Walker said he was stunned at the severity of the incident and hoped it was a one-off.

He said: “I am shocked. Marks Tey is generally law abiding and a fairly safe place to be.

“Like anywhere, there have been incidents in the past but certainly nothing of this ilk.

“We need to know more about what has happened.

“There is a very strong Neighbourhood Watch scheme and I hope it is a one-off incident.

“We need to get to the bottom of what has happened because I do not want people living in Marks Tey to worry unduly as it is a generally safe place.”

Police have described the victim’s injuries as life-changing.

Officers remained on the scene from the time of the incident until 12.30pm yesterday.

Teams have conducted searches of the area and have been speaking to nearby residents and taken CCTV.

Anyone who knows anything or has any footage is asked to call Colchester Police on 101 quoting incident 1629 of October 31.

Alternatively, details can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 55511 or online at crimestoppers-uk.org.

Mr Walker also urged anyone who knew anything to call the police immediately.

“It is crucial anyone who knows anything reports it,” he said.

A nearby resident said the incident happened shortly after he had returned home.

He said: “It is very surprising and generally it is a quiet neighbourhood.

“But there were arson attacks in the summer where the fences and the conifers were badly damaged and now this - it does make you worry a bit.

“Both times the police have taken my CCTV so it is useful to have the cameras there.

“There are cut-throughs as well in and around these roads so people can get through without being seen, especially with how early it gets dark and the streetlights going off.”
