A £2 MILLION refurbishment at a popular McDonald’s restaurant has been unveiled.

The branch at Tollgate, Stanway, was closed for eight weeks while the overhaul, which created an extra 50 jobs, took place.

This morning, it reopened.

The restaurant can now cater for double the number of people - at 160 - while a completely new kitchen was also installed.

On average 4,000 people are fed in the outlet every day.

Table service is now available for the first time and a second drive-thru order point has been added in a bid to speed up the takeaway service.

McDeliveries are also now available.

New touch screen self-order kiosks have also been installed in the dining area.

Franchisee Craig Newnes said: “The design is outstanding and already you can see customers are lovin' it."

The branch was re-opened this morning by MP Priti Patel, whose Witham constituency covers Stanway.

A defibrillator has also been installed outside, which can be used by anyone in the community who needs it.

Mr Newnes added: "We really believe it could be a life-saver for the community and we're proud to be able to provide it."
