MORE than £30,000 has been raised to help Colchester Foodbank find a new home.

The foodbank is looking to raise cash for a permanent base close to their current premises in Moorside Business Park.

Paying for the rent on the building is the biggest expense, and staff hope to raise enough to be able to buy a building, which would be more cost effective.

Thanks to support from the Gazette and a number of funding bids the charity now has £30,899 of its £500,000 target.

Michael Beckett, chief executive of Colchester Foodbank, said: “Thank you ever so much for the Gazette’s readers’ support to date, from giving us a like on Facebook, or an extra can, carton or packet of food when you shop, or donating money to the foodbank, every little helps.”

The foodbank has also won a national Charities Against Fraud award for the dedication of staff and volunteers.

The charity has now signed up for the Aviva Community Fund in the hope of winning £1,000 of additional funding towards the new headquarters.
