A SERIES of coffee mornings held in aid of cancer nurses raised more than £1,200.

Staff with Tendring Council held coffee and cake sales at its Weeley offices, Northbourne depot and leisure centres across the district.

The council's chairman Mark Platt held a bake-off in Clacton Town Hall last Thursday, where he was joined by five friends in a three hour cooking demonstration.

"I know just how many people, our staff included, whose lives have been affected by cancer," said Mr Platt.

"So it comes as no surprise how much effort has been put in by council employees to raise money for this fantastic cause.

“We had a lot of fun baking live in the Town Hall, helped by the fact we were supporting a really good cause.

"I’d like to thank those who helped me with the event: former chairman county councillor Alan Goggin and his wife Mary, Christine Brown from Jamesons Accountants, former communications manager Nigel Brown, and Lizzie Ridout from the leadership support team.

“I’d like to congratulate HR advisor Pauline Lifton who won the prize for the best baked cake donated to the Town Hall sale.

“Also a big thank you to everyone who made or bought cakes, and to everyone who donated money as part of the events right across the council.
