COURTNEY Senior says grabbing Colchester United’s winner at Morecambe was a ‘special’ feeling after it secured them back-to-back league victories.

Senior’s well-taken strike scored just before the break at the Globe Arena was enough to earn a 1-0 victory for the U’s and clinch them successive victories in League Two for the first time, this season.

The win moved John McGreal’s side up to fifth in the table and just two points adrift of the top three, leaving winger Senior understandably ecstatic.

Senior told the Gazette: “It was a very good, well-worked goal so I’m delighted and it was even more special because it was the only goal of the game.

“I was really happy to score but even happier that we got the three points, so it was a sweet feeling.

“I got it on the edge of the box, I gave it to Pelly and he gave it to me back and I’ve just calmly slotted it home.

“It was a very good away win for us.

“I thought the boys did very well to grind out the result towards the end, because I think Morecambe were on top in the second half.

“We were really on top of them in the first half but couldn’t get the goal until just before half-time.

“In the second half they were on top of us but I thought that the boys at the back and in the team did really well, to grind out the result.”

Colchester are back on the road tomorrow night when they take on Grimsby Town at Blundell Park, with winger Senior targeting a third straight league victory.

“There’s great team spirit in this team and we’re looking to get promoted, so we have to give everything,” said the former Brentford youngster.

“It was good to get the back-to-back league wins for the first time this season and now we have to go to Grimsby and get the win there.

“We’re winning at the moment and we just want the games to come thick and fast, which they are.

“We’ll carry on getting three points and grinding out results.”

Senior has started Colchester’s last five league games and is pleased with the form he is currently showing.

“I think I’m doing well to stay in the team, even though we’re doing well,” added Senior, who has now scored three times for Colchester, this season.

“I’d like to get a couple more goals and assists but I think that I’m doing really well in the final third.

“I know I still have to work on my defensive play but I think it’s all good, at the moment.”
