A MAN will face court charged with death by dangerous driving after a fatal crash last Wednesday.
Marcus Wood, 21, of The Street, Terling, was also charged with escaping lawful custody the day after the crash in Blue Mills Hill, Wickham Bishops, and perverting the course of justice.
Police were called shortly after 11pm after the incident between a silver Ford Fiesta and a black BMW 520.
Both vehicles had left the road and the Fiesta had come to rest in a hedge. Sadly, the driver of the Fiesta, father-of-four David Jones, died at the scene.
He was 39, from Southminster.
Wood appeared at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
The bench concluded the case was too serious to be dealt with and passed jurisdiction to Ipswich Crown Court, who will hear his case on November 9.
He remains in custody until then.
A 54-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender in connection with the incident has been released on bail to November 6.
An 18 year-old woman from Witham, an 18 year-old woman from Colchester, and a 17 year-old boy from Maldon arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving have been released under investigation pending ongoing inquiries.
