BROTHERS caught preparing to potentially burgle a number of businesses have avoided prison sentences.

James Parker and Tommy Parker, both of Magnolia Driver, Colchester, were caught with a number of items which could have been used in burglaries in Davey Close in August.

Both then failed to show at their initial court hearing and were later arrested again.

James, 31, had a foil lined bag, a torch and a screwdriver while older sibling Tommy, 33, had a crowbar, hammer, extendable metal bar, wrench, screwdriver, wire cutters and pliers.

Both admitted going equipped to commit burglary and failing to surrender to court when they were eventually produced at Colchester Magistrates' Court.

James also admitted possession of a bladed article after he was also caught with a Stanley knife.

He was given an 18 week prison sentence suspended for a year, and Tommy a 14 week prison sentence which was also suspended.

Both must attend drug rehabilitation programmes and attend 20 sessions with the probation service as well as pay £200 each in court charges.
