A SEPTUAGENARIAN has vowed to take a parking enforcement company to court after they set the bailiffs on him.

Alan Toussaint, of Rowhedge, received eight parking fines while shopping at the Co-op in Old Heath when the company brought in a security firm to monitor its tiny car park.

Bosses ripped up the fines and told Mr Toussaint he didn’t have to pay as he was such a good customer.

But he has now received a notice from bailiffs telling him to cough up £160 following a new fine.

Mr Toussaint said he has ‘had enough’.

He said: “These people think they can go riding people down like Genghis Khan and it’s wrong.

“I am being hounded.

“They threaten you with the supreme court. Well I say let’s go to the supreme court.

“I know they won’t take it seriously but I’m going to take them for a day at the races. If I win any money then I will give it to charity.

“But I’m not paying them.”

Mr Toussaint, 70, said he had been caught out by nipping across to complete his shopping at nearby shops after visiting the Co-op store.

He also has a disabled badge which enables him to park in disabled bays.

However, he says he frequently forgets to display it and the cameras catch him and report it to the car parking company – National Parking Enforcement ltd.

Mr Toussaint said the Co-op has been excellent at sorting out his fines as they know he is a loyal customer but he doesn’t feel they should have to do it.

He said: “I won’t shop there now on principle.

“I go to Lidl instead and I don’t have the same problem. If I forget to put my disabled badge out then a security guard will tell me and I will go back.

“But I don’t get fined. I don’t have that trouble in any other supermarket. I’m tired of it and if I have to spend that sort of money to sort it out I will.”

Mr Toussaint said he has now passed the fine and the bailiffs notice to his solicitor who will be looking to take action.

He has also asked for anyone else who has received a fine at the car park to get in touch by contacting him via the Gazette.

The Gazette contacted the East of England Co-op but they did not wish to comment.
