A memorial ride will be held to remember the motorcyclist who died following a crash with a lorry on the A12 at Colchester.

The family of Liam Holding and his girlfriend Katie Maynard, 25, have organised the event to honour the 24-year-old, who died following the accident near to the Jobserve Community Stadium on Thursday morning.

The ride will take place on Sunday, October 21, and will honour Mr Holding's "massive passion, pride and personality".

Bikes will meet at Colchester Park and Ride, just off the A12, at 12noon, before starting their journey at 1pm.

The route will take drivers down the A12 and onto the A130 towards Basildon, visiting Pitsea's St Michael's Church on the way, which was Mr Holding's favourite place.

Gazette:

After the pit stop, riders will get back on their bikes before ending the journey in Pitsey, where Mr Holding lived.

The ride travels the final journey Mr Holding was taking from Miss Maynard's home in Brightlingsea.

In a post on Facebook Miss Maynard: "Right, calling everyone who knew or even didn’t know our gorgeous Liam Holding the amazing son, brother and my boyfriend, and just wants to support and enjoy a good celebration of life.

"I'd like a respectable but loud exhaust memorial ride for him.

"Honestly the louder the better in his words a 'proper filthy noise'.

"I would like to be at the front leading it as that’s how I met him and Dean Cox, one of his best friends, will be right there with me.

"He has always shared and supported biker down rides so he was a big part of the biker community."

Mr Holding's mum Donna and sister Abbieamel will join to help lead the ride on the back of a motorcycle.

Everyone is encouraged to dress as brightly as possible, in Kawasaki green if possible, and all road-legal bikes as well as quads are encouraged to take part.

Miss Maynard said: "There will be no pressure for any donations but if you wish it will be going to the air ambulance service who did land to assist but he had already gone.

"It’s an amazing service and well deserving."
