A FUN quiz night is being organised to celebrate National Coming Out Day.

On October 11, Colchester based LGBTQ+ charity Outhouse East is hosting a quiz night at Firstsite.

The evening is part of a week-long programme of events hosted by Outhouse to support the community.

The event is supported by Colchester Council leader Mark Cory and by Firstsite which is donating the use of the venue.

Profits raised from the evening will help fund Outhouse East’s ongoing work in the community, specifically their in-development youth programme.

During the day, Outhouse East will also be in the High Street at the Community 360 shop for people to visit and get some help and advice about coming out .

Outhouse trustee Dan Deller-Thompson said: “Coming out is still a very difficult thing for many people in the LGBTQ+ community.

“For this year’s National Coming Out Day, we wanted Outhouse East to ‘come out’ into the community so that people who may be struggling know there is a safe place if they need it and a vibrant community of people to support them.”

Mark Cory (Lib Dem) will be co-hosting the evening.

He said: “I personally know how difficult it can be dealing with issues of sexuality and ‘coming out’.

“Things are getting better for the younger generations, however some people still do not understand the personal challenges faced by young people identifying within the LGBTQ+ community.

“Co-hosting this fun event will help raise awareness and raise money to further support people in our local community who need help and advice dealing with their sexuality.”
