TWO life-saving defibrillators are set to be installed near a recreation ground.

The GO4 Café, in partnership with Wimpole Road Methodist Church in Colchester, is arranging for the defibrillators to be installed outside the church and at the café.

They will be accessible to users of Old Heath Recreation Ground and residents in New Town.

Pepi Sanchez, from the cafe, has set up a fundraising page.

She said: “The Colchester First Responders have been instrumental in this and we are also delighted councillor Theresa Higgins has also provided her support.

“Additionally, we are arranging some free defib training sessions run by the first responders.

“Training is not required to operate the defib machines, but research has shown those who have had some training are significantly more likely to use the machine in case of an emergency than those who have not be trained.

“You never know, two hours of your life doing this training could save the life of somebody else.”

There is a session on Sunday at 2.30pm and it will be held in the Wimpole Road church hall.

Places are limited and people can reserve a space by messaging the Wimpole Road Methodist Church Facebook page.

Pepi has also been making homemade jam to sell at the cafe to raise funds for the defibrillator.

They will be on sale this Sunday.
