Maldon Regatta sails into town

A host of racing and entertainment will arrive on Maldon’s Hythe Quay when an annual regatta returns this weekend.

The full-day event, which will see a host of traditional and modern yachts racing up and down the River Blackwater will take place on Saturday, September 22.

The event has been held for generations and in its present form since 2002.

There will be entertainment, stalls and live music all day.

As well as races on the water, there will be a boat jumble, a treasure hunt and raffle, a barbecue, and an opportunity to visit a Thames Barge or the Steam Tug Brent.

From midday, there will be shanty singers, a rubber duck race and other events.

The event continues into the evening with live music from 7pm.

On the water, races start at 8am for the longer courses and 8.10am for shorter courses.

Classic cars at annual supercar show

Classic roadsters and supercars will go on display at an annual event.

The Warren Classic and Supercar Show is back on Sunday at the Warren Golf and Country Club in Woodham Walter.

Visitors will have the chance to see a range of luxury and performance cars.

The highlight of the show will be the unveiling of an unseen 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO belonging to Pink Floyd’s Nick Mason.

There will also be a display of the Bugatti Chiron, one of the world’s fastest and most expensive production cars.

Motor fans can get the chance to see cars from firms like Ferrari and Porsche, Aston Martin and more.

The show contains more than 50 side shows, bouncy castles, motorcycle stunts, and food and drinks.

The RAF Lancaster bomber will also be doing a flyover and the Falcons parachute display team will be dropping in from the skies.

Tickets for the show are £16 for adults, £7 for under 16s and free for under 12s.

Visitors will be able to get discounted tickets if they book online in advance.

Test out navigation skills

Children can test out their navigational skills at an event this weekend.

The Essex Stragglers Orienteering Society is putting on an orienteering course in at Promenade Park in Park Drive, Maldon on Saturday.

Orienteering is an outdoor adventure sport where the aim is to navigate between control points on a map and decide the quickest route.

Children will receive a course map and an electronic timing chip once they fill out a registration form.

All children will need to bring a watch.

Parents can talk through the course but participants are encouraged to navigate for themselves.

The course should take 30 minutes to complete.

Course registration is open from 1pm to 2.30pm.

Participants are asked to look out for the green SOS banner.

Entry is free for children and participating parents pay £3.

Charity walk for Bloodwise in village

A charity walk will take place in Great Totham.

The Blackwater Forget Me Not Walk will be held on Saturday at The Bull in Maldon Road, Great Totham.

The fundraiser will be for the Tim Reeve Charitable Trust and Bloodwise to raise money for the care and treatment of young people with blood cancer.

The path is ten miles and there are options for participants to do five miles or the full route.

The walk is organised by Sandra and John Reeve in memory of their son, Tim.

Members of the public more than 12-years-old can participate.

Entry for the walk is £10 for adults and £5 for children.

Entry includes fundraising guide and sponsor form, t-shirt, route guide, snacks and a medal on completion.

Big band to get crowds singing

A live concert will take place in Purleigh this weekend.

The Sid Bolan Big Band will be playing at All Saints Church in Church Hill on Saturday.

The band take influences from Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, Frank Sinatra and more.

Funds towards the event go in aid of Purleigh Church.

The event starts at 7:30pm and tickets are £7 and can be purchased in Purleigh stores.

Dogs welcome at church barbecue

A dog-friendly barbecue will be taking place in Little Totham.

A special service to celebrate the value of dogs in people’s lives and communities will be held at All Saints Church in Church Lane on Sunday from 11am.

Coffee and biscuits will be available followed by a barbecue at The Swan in School Road.

There will be a collection for the Cinnamon Trust.

Dog owners and non-dog owners are welcome. Entry is free.

Watch music film under the stars

Outdoor cinema will be coming to Burnham this weekend.

Alfresco Cinema will be showing The Greatest Showman on Saturday at Burnham Riverside Park in Millfields.

Gates open at 6.30pm and the show starts at 7.30pm.
