DRIVERS have spoken of their shock after heavy objects were thrown at their cars as they drove along busy roads.

Police are investigating two separate incidents over the weekend which happened in Colchester town centre and on the A120 near Stisted.

The Colchester incident happened as cars drove on Balkerne Hill and objects - believed to be bricks – hit at least three cars.

Motorist Marcin Przybylek said his children, five and ten, were in his car when the incident happened around 10.30am on Sunday after he drove beneath the footbridge.

Mr Przybylek, 37, said: “I heard a massive bang - something hit the car, it was really loud.

“I quickly turned my head and I could see quite a large thing - a brick bigger than a tennis ball - and straight away looked where to stop.”

Mr Przybyleck, of Abbey Fields, Colchester, pulled into a layby by the Embassy restaurant where another motorist had pulled over too and whose vehicle had also been stuck.

Another struck car pulled in after him.

Police were called and the three drivers gave statements.

Mr Przybylek said his children were “shocked” and his daughter, Ewelina, was particularly shaken.

“It was pretty awful. I was shocked, I was thinking how could someone do such a thing.”

His VW Passat had two scratches on the front windscreen.

Driver Shelle Cottham, of West Bergholt, described hearing an “almighty bang” and discovered her Peugeot was dented and scratched.

She added: “At first I was in shock.

Gazette:

“Balkerne Hill can get quite busy, I could have quite easily swerved and hit somebody else.”

The other, unconnected incident happened around 10.40pm on Saturday.

Jocelyn Wallace, reported on the CrimeWatch/Community Colchester site: “While travelling from Colchester to Stansted Airport last night I was met by three small faces - around ten years of age - followed by a volley of bricks.

“I thought I had hit a child, swerved, almost had a head on collision with an articulated lorry.

“When I pulled over to investigate I had a huge chunk of metal dented on my bonnet. The three cars behind me also had significant damage to their cars.

“Lucky no-one was hurt and all windscreens were in tact.”

Witnesses should contact Essex Police on 101.

An Essex Police spokesman confirmed officers were investigating both incidents.
