THE TEAM behind Colchester Has Pride has announced it is resigning.

Despite a very popular event in the town centre this year, the group committee posted a lengthy statement on its Facebook page earlier today, saying the whole team was stepping down.

The statement said: "This year we had a lovely event and feel our community came together and had a great day out.

"We are so happy we were able to do this.

"However, for the committee it was extremely challenging, and the committee itself went through many changes.

"The event almost got cancelled due to resignations but the small committee that was left decided to push on."

The statement also called out town centre shops, saying many seemed to "cash in" on the event but did not contribute or get involved with the day.

It added: "The committee are all volunteers, we completed a lot of unpaid work in the background.

"Our committee's efforts have been constantly criticised, which has included demoralising and unhelpful comments. Some of which included personal attacks on members.

"In addition to this the venue made changes to our agreement at the last minute.

"It is therefore with regret that the whole Colchester Has Pride committee has chosen to resign."

Financial accounts are being audited and any left over funds will go to various charities.

They said it was not an easy decision to make.

It is not known whether anyone will take over the committee at this stage. We contacted the committee for a comment.
