Plans to reduce congestion where the A120 meets the M11 near Stansted Airport have been revealed.

Essex Highways has published its latest proposals for where the two roads meet, Junction 8, in a move it hopes will cut congestion in the area.

Extra capacity is also expected to be needed around the airport due to the growth of Bishop's Stortford and Uttlesford.

The proposals will see extra lanes added to the Junction 8 sliproads and the A120 roundabout will be replaced with a signalled junction.

Kevin Bentley, deputy leader of Essex County Council and councillor responsible for infrastructure, said: "Junction 8 on the M11 can often become a pinch point for residents and businesses using the M11, A120 and London Stansted Airport.

"Upgrades will improve access to key routes, reduce congestion and improve capacity on the exit slip roads.

"All of these improvements are done with a look ahead to supporting future housing, employment and business developments happening in the area, ensuring Essex's economy is supported with the right infrastructure and investment."
