A quad biker has been slammed as "irresponsible" after a video emerged him riding at 70mph on just two wheels - for more than a mile.

The man was filmed by another car on the A13 carrying out the dangerous stunt, known as a wheelie.

One person who saw the video after it was posted online said: "I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

"I drive on a lot of the main roads in Essex and you do see a lot of idiots, but this takes the biscuit!

"This man was endangering his own life, and more importantly, the lives of the people also on the road.

"If he had lost control and come off his bike, cars around him could easily have hit him, or hit each other trying to avoid him.

"It is just so stupid and pointless.

"He may think he looks cool, but he won't look so cool lying in a mortuary."

Other people also slammed the rider, calling him "stupid" and "irresponsible.

Essex Police said it was working hard to tackle those who are driving dangerously.

Adam Pipe, head of Roads Policing at Essex Police, said: “Unfortunately this is a problem we encounter across the county and our officers are working to disrupt this behaviour.

"The irresponsible and careless actions of these individuals are not only putting their own lives in danger but also putting other road users at risk too.

"The public can help by calling us on either 999 or 101 when they see these incidents taking place and providing as much information as possible including a description of both the vehicle and the rider.

"We also appeal for any mobile phone, CCTV or dash cam footage to be sent to our Roads Policing Units via the Safer Essex Roads Partnership website www.saferessexroads.org/extraeyes which can assist our officers in identifying and taking action against these individuals."

The incident happened near to Tilbury.
