One of Stansted Airport's newest carriers has announced plans to increase its capacity at the airport by 20 per cent in a move which will bring more than 250 new jobs to the area.

Jet2.com and Jet2holidays is starting a recruitment drive for flight deck, cabin crew and ground operations staff to start work at Stansted from summer next year.

On the back of a successful launch at the airport earlier last year, Jet2 are set to offer an increased 1.7 million seats from June 2019.

Three brand new destinations have also been announced - Bourgas in Bulgaria, Chania in Crete and Izmir in Turkey.

The new roles have been created to support this growth with 100 cabin crew, more than 150 ground operations staff needed and several flight deck positions available.

Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2.com and jet2holidays, said: "This is our biggest ever recruitment drive at London Stansted Airport, and once again demonstrates our commitment to investing in our customers and in people’s careers.

"The success of our award-winning business is down to the hard work of our fantastic colleagues, and we are looking forward to meeting passionate people to join our expanding team.”

Experienced pilots are being sought for the flight deck roles, whilst the new ground operations team members will ensure flights depart safely and on time.

The cabin crew staff will aim to make customer's journeys memorable, with prior training not necessary.

Mats Sigurdson, Stansted Airport’s aviation director, said: “Jet2.com and Jet2holidays have been very popular with passengers since launching from London Stansted last year, and with the biggest ever flight and holiday programme on offer for summer 2019, the creation of 250 new jobs is a clear reflection of the continuing drive to deliver great customer service and even more choice of exciting holiday destinations.”

Last week Stansted Airport released new pictures of its planned £130 million arrivals building, which could be built by 2020.

Plans are underway to increase the airport's capacity from 27 million a year to 43 million, subject to its owners, Manchester Airport Group, receiving planning permission.
