THERE are just a few days left before hundreds of comic book heroes descend on the town.

Invasion Colchester will take place this Saturday, with plenty of town centre businesses signed up to take part.

The annual event, organised by Simon Leonard and Kerrie Williams, from Ace Comics, will raise money for the Colchester and Ipswich Hospitals Charity and St Helena Hospice.

This year, about 200 people will be dressed up as film characters and comic book stars.

Lots of exciting things will be happening at Lion Walk and Culver Square shopping centres, Colchester Market, Fenwick, Firstsite, Castle Park, Ace Comics, Colchester Park and Ride, the Town Hall and other destinations.

A two day event, which will also take place during Invasion Colchester, will be celebrating all things historical.

Invasion Colchester 1648 will see historic parades, games, stalls, food, and more.

It will take place on Saturday, September 1 and Sunday, September 2 from 10.30am until 5pm.

Organisers will be hosting the event at Colchester Castle, and Upper Castle Park.

Famous vehicles from films will be in Culver Square, with the star car of the day being the Batman Tumbler.

Over at Lion Walk shopping centre characters from both Star Wars and Ghostbusters movies will be making appearances.

Anyone travelling on the Park and Ride in costume can do so for free.

The Colchester and Ipswich Hospitals Charity is running their Superstar Abseil in conjunction with Invasion this year.

The annual event sees brave daredevils scale down the Town Hall, dressed up as their favourite super hero.

More fun is to be had on Sunday, when Kapow! comes to town.

The Tom Bowdidge Youth Cancer Foundation says people will be flying in from York and Manchester for Kapow! in Colchester’s Lower Castle Park.

There will be ten ultimate tests, from climbing bouncy steps to dodging inflatable poles.

Participants will tackle inflatable obstacles on the day over a 5k course, raising money for the Foundation which supports teenager cancer patients and research.
