A MAN who has racked up more than 90 previous convictions has been sent back to jail for a fortnight just a month after being released after lashing out a police officers.

Alcoholic Paul Scott became aggressive when a shopkeeper at the Premier store in Queen Street, Colchester, refused to serve him alcohol shortly after 8.30pm on Friday.

Police were called and they found Scott, 45, outside a kebab shop nearby where he was shouting and swearing.

Officers asked him if he was ok and he began swinging punches towards them and shouting.

They eventually managed to restrain Scott and noticed he had a head injury so transferred him to Colchester General Hospital for treatment.

When he got there Scott continued to use in appropriate language including loud swearing at nurses who were trying to help him.

As he was taken to custody in a police car he kicked the door causing damage.

At Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court Scott, of no fixed address, admitted to disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and criminal damage.

Paul Baker, mitigating said most of Scott’s 92 previous convictions were down to booze.

He said: “He has a fair number of convictions - a lot of those are down to addiction particularly to alcohol.

“By his own admission he consumes up to six litres of alcohol on a daily basis.

“His recollection of the incident is very vague.

“He remembers going to the shop to buy alcohol but them refusing to serve him because of his intoxicated state.

“He was only released from prison on August 17 and has been street homeless for a considerable period of time.”

Magistrates sent Scott back to prison for two weeks and ordered him to pay £115 compensation to fix damage done to the police car.
