Title holders Essex meet aspirants Sussex at Colchester on Sunday in the Pro40 League with both sides desperately seeking victory although for totally contrasting reasons.
The home side are in grave danger of relegation as they are searching for their first win of the season in the competition, although two of their five matches so far have been abandoned without a ball being bowled.
Their meagre tally of two points has left them one place and one point above basement side Northamptonshire who have played two games fewer with the teams set to meet in the final match of the season at Northampton.
Sussex though, who also have three matches left this season, are enjoying life at the opposite end of the table and arrive for the match in Castle Park in second position trailing leaders Worcestershire by one point.
