Residents said a sad farewell to two established trees which have been felled by developers.
The trees have been part of the view for Halstead residents living in Mill Chase and Bois Field Terrace for some time, but were felled as part of a housing development at the former Greenwood School site in Mill Chase.
Dean Jay, of Bois Field Terrace, said he and his 84-year- old neighbour were upset to see the trees go, and had not realised they were being taken down.
He said: "It's quite upsetting really because it's quite a prominent tree. It's a sycamore and a feature. It feels like I am mourning it going."
The developer Knighton Homes is building 11 homes, and had displayed plans for some time at the site, a Braintree Council spokesman said.
It will plant 14 new trees at the site.
