Clacton's MP has called on the Prime Minister to plough money into the area's sea defences.
Douglas Carswell has written to Gordon Brown requesting financial support for the Tendring coast, with particular focus on Clacton and Holland-on-Sea, where the sea wall started to collapse earlier this year.
The two areas had previously been promised new off-shore defences, but changes to the funding criteria meant the money went elsewhere.
Mr Carswell said: "The cost of repairing the sea defences could fall on the council directly, which would affect other services.
"What we need is not a piecemeal approach each time some of our sea defences collapse, but an entirely new set of defences."
