FACILITIES at a council-run leisure centre have been slammed as an “absolute disgrace” after concerns were raised over hygiene.

Danny Harvey, 28, claims the health suite and spa at Clacton Leisure Centre are “completely disgusting”, with dirt, rust and broken tiles.

He was so angry, he posted photos of dusty air vents, dirty floors and even an old banana skin in the sauna on social media.

Danny, from Clacton, said: “It’s the health suite, spa area, gym, changing room and showers – the whole lot is disgusting.

“The place is falling apart.

“I’m not the only one who says it is disgusting – other people have cancelled their membership there.”

Danny has been a leisure centre member for just over a year and pays nearly £30 a month.

“It was quite bad to begin with, but it’s got progressively worse.

“I’ve raised it with managers and staff many times.

“Now I’ve taken photos and put them on Facebook. A lot of other people have commented on Facebook and are saying it’s disgusting.

“Apparently the female showers are just as bad.

“You would think the council would be maintaining it to a better standard because they would want people to join.”

Commenting on social media, Amy Smith said: “Me and my family stopped going because it’s so disgusting.”

Mark Fiddes said: “We stopped our family membership...Dirty, filthy place and wasn’t worth the money...Clacton leisure is a disgrace and probably a potential health risk.”

Ann Gardner said: “I’ve sent an email complaining loads of times – never get response. Had enough after all these years.”

She claimed the spa and changing rooms were “filthy”.

Clacton councillor Andy Pemberton has also called on Tendring Council to take action.

He said: “It seems like care and pride have gone. How can they expect others to show care if they can’t be bothered?

“We need pride and care put back into Clacton Leisure Centre again.”

A Tendring Council spokesman said: “Proposals for improvements to the spa area at Clacton Leisure are being prepared for consideration and our management team have arranged to meet the customer to discuss the points he has raised.”
