An historic Colchester workhouse is set to be converted into housing.
St Albright's - set up in the 1830s for the poor and destitute - could become desirable apartments in the converted workhouse.
ESHA Homes has applied to Colchester Council for planning consent for the conversion - which would see 86 homes provided in some of the current buildings as well as new buildings on the site in London Road, Stanway.
The structure is Grade II listed, and listed building consent has also been applied for.
A spokesman for Colchester Council said there had been discussions with the developer before the application was submitted to set out what is expected.
St Albright's was built by Lexden and Winstree Poor Law Union to accommodate 330 inmates, it is seen as a classic design with a central octagon and four blocks radiating from it.
Colchester Council's planning committee will make a decision on the application at a later date, the target date for dealing with the application is November 14.
