Police have launched a multi-force operation to crackdown on illegal raves.

Hundreds of officers from Essex and surrounding forces have drawn up battle plans to stop events across the region in time for the Bank Holiday weekend.

They hope to disrupt parties, seize equipment and arrest organisers in one of the biggest efforts yet to tackle the problem.

Their plans come almost a year since 64 officers were injured after trouble flared at a rave in Great Chesterford, near Saffron Walden.

Eleven men are still wanted in connection with the violence, in which one officer had his finger severed. Superintendent Jed Stopher, of Essex Police, said: "Our priority is the safety of the public.

"Illegal raves can put the lives of revellers and others at risk."

  • Anyone who has information about an illegal rave should contact their local police force or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
