The first "twinning" trip between Jaywick and its mirror-image resort in Kent has been hailed a success.

Residents discovered in April there is a strikingly similar estate to Jaywick's Brooklands just 27 miles across the North Sea in Studd Hill near Herne Bay.

Both were built by the Stedman family in the 1930s as holiday resorts and the streets have the same names.

But while parts of Brooklands have been left to degenerate, Studd Hill is a much sought-after location for visitors and home-hunters.

As a comparison, a two-bedroom bungalow in Hillman Avenue, Studd Hill, will set you back £164,500, while a similar property in Hillman Avenue, Jaywick, is £64,995.

Two minibuses of Jaywick residents made the 115-mile journey to Studd Hill on Sunday.

Mick Masterson, chairman, said: "It was nice to be able to offer a hand of friendship across the water.

"People wanted to find what their Jaywick street looked like in Studd Hill and talk about the similarities of the resorts and different challenges we face.

"It was a great success and we are already talking about hosting a twinning visit from our new friends."

Friends of Brooklands, supported by the Jaywick Forum and the Tendring Council-run Neighbourhood Interaction Board, organised the trip.
