Patients will get better access to their GP, health bosses have pledged.
A recent survey of GP services showed most patients are satisfied, but some issues have been highlighted at a small number of surgeries in north Essex.
Bosses in north Essex have set up a panel to identify and solve problems.
A letter was sent to all local health authorities by Mark Britnell, director of commissioning at the Department of Health, ordering them to improve access to services, including out-of-hours cover.
A spokesman for North East Essex Primary Care Trust said: "NHS East of England has recently asked every PCT in the six counties to submit a detailed action plan about improving GP access by the end of September.
"Recent surveys of GPs' services show that almost all patients continue to be satisfied but they have also highlighted some particular issues at a small number of the 44 GP practices in north east Essex.
"NHS East of England is asking us how we will work with these practices to address these issues, and also what we are doing in broader terms to improve access."
